Carl Veno’s book, Invisible Ink, provides an insider’s view of
the newspaper world during the author’s 25-years as a
journalist and editor - at a time when major events were
having dramatic affects on American society. Told in a
no-nonsense matter-of-fact manner, the tales of experience
are intermingled with the author’s family history, including
the immigration of his Italian ancestors to America more
than 125 years ago. Reminiscent moments clearly reveal
Carl’s fond memories of growing up and his youthful love of
New York.
Various newspaper readership “wars” were destroying and
absorbing each other during an incredible age of change
and discovery for the American people. Exciting and
newsworthy issues including men and women learning to
co-exist in the workplace, mobsters, racism, riots, war and
space travel were fighting for newspaper space. Between all
this the author reveals inner office politics within the
industry. We all know from our own experience, differences
occur at places of employment - management issues,
co-worker competition, etc. - and it is all here. Yet on top of
this the reader is introduced to interesting and eccentric
characters, complicated work-related relationships and
office love affairs. The epilogue closes nicely with the fate of
some of the newspapers mentioned in the book.
Prior to entering the world of journalism, Carl spent time as
a barber, boxer and army trooper. Not including his
free-lance work and lecturing, Veno was employed by eight
newspapers (some of which won many awards) and was
nominated for the Pulitzer Prize during his career. Carl is
now retired and able to pursue his love of exercise through
jogging and continues to write books.

A home is a personal and financial benefit. Buying or selling a house goes with it a lot of pre determined thoughts, plans and emotional factors. People sell houses because of various factors. They might need immediate cash because of certain unavoidable circumstances, family problems, foreclosure, relocation, bad tenants, repairs or damages etc. However pre planning is done on the issue of selling a house, it usually ends up in a situation of urgency for cash. So, the factor that rules high is definitely cash and fast cash.
The same happens with regard to buying a house. May be because of the sudden closure of selling one’s own house, or various other factors, you may be in a hurry to buy a house and that too fast. You often wonder how this is being done as you cannot wait for days and months to buy a house spending money and resources over searching the right one in the right place.
When buying and selling a home, so many things need to be taken in to consideration. The things you feel silly will be of utmost importance to you. The questions that need to be considered when selling a house are:
How am I going to sell my house?
Who will help in the process of selling my house?
Will I get enough profit when I sell my home fast?
How long will it take to sell my house?
How credible mediators will be in selling a house? Etc.
The same brain storming process will happen in the process of buying a house too. Most people will look for the best house in the market at affordable rates. But again you will find to difficult as to who to approach for the same and how to. You will not have enough time to spend on searching for the apt house satisfying your expectations. Waiting for a home to get listed in the real estate markets is definitely time-consuming and also you cannot wait for the market rates to rise up or fall down.
Before you proceed with selling your house, here are some tips you can consider.
- Analyze the worthiness of your house
It always results in nothing when you claim for a bigger amount your house is not worthy of getting. So understand the real value you will get for the house and then go for a deal. This will bring up a better agreement rather.
- Calculate costs to buy a new home
If you are selling your house, you definitely need an alternative. This decision should be taken up wisely so that you will not end up in trouble later on. Based on this you can determine the date for which you want to sell your house or start the exact selling processes.
- Make all necessary repairs
Make all the necessary repairs you need to be done to your house before putting it in the sale market. You won’t get enough money. So it is always better you do all the maintenance work and repairs before you sell your house. But now, there are also available online selling facilities which do not claim for properly maintained houses.
- Get the house ready to display
Once you are done with all the maintenance work and repairs, it is time to display your house for selling. Do not ever claim an amount you are sure you will not get because that will adversely affect the whole psychology of the selling process.
You have various options to sell and buy your home fast. The two possible options are selling your house through a real estate agent and selling your house yourself. Whatever is the decision you are going to take, you house should necessarily have some basic awareness on the present market situation, competitive prices available, marketing techniques etc.
Selling a house through a real estate buyer
Choosing the right real estate agent is necessary to sell a house as it is attached with so much of commitment and investment. Credibility is one of the factors you should necessarily look in to when you go for a real estate agent. Experience in the field should be taken in to consideration and it is always better if you go for someone you already know or trust.
The cons in involving a real estate agent will involve money, time and of course reliability is always questioned. But there are also professional real estate agents who work effectively and sell your house fast.
Selling your house by yourself
This involves no wastage of time, money and question of credibility. As you are the owner you know about the house better than anyone else and you are the best person who can do it effectively. There is no one to push or pull you from a deal. You can very well do it according to your own conveniences.
For sale by Owner (FSBO) technique will work out only effectively when you are thoroughly informed about all the major issues associated with selling a home. You have to read well, get updated about the current scenario, market rates and keep schedule in the right way because you are not only competing with other owners who try selling their house in the market, but also other real estate agents who are involved in selling houses.
Therefore, just putting up a board somewhere near the gate will not work out effectively. You have to indulge with the present marketing strategies involved with selling a house and if needed you can even advertise to sell you house in an effective manner. This expense will not be a bigger one as you are not paying the real estate agents in any way who in turn need to pay companies, brokers and the like.
Online selling of your house
When you sell your house by yourself, you can very well resort to online selling which drastically cuts cost and wastage of time. If you have a computer and an internet connection, you can very well go for online selling methods. It gives you fast response and it will not even demand your presence in the selling spot especially when you have the house overseas or the like.
You should always plan the right agenda before you sell your house and go with the same until the sale is over. Even if it seems to be easy from an outside glance, it is practically not so viable. In a nutshell, right planning, administration and a tricky mind to track cheaters will be enough to sell your house effectively and fast.

So, your competition has stepped it up a notch huh? Well here are some steps to really making your website stick out above the rest.
Make sure you are ready to build a website. The number one thing that hold up website development is the client not knowing what they want on there site. This is a real issue because if you don’t know what you want, you will drive up the cost of your site development.
Make sure you are ready to spend not only money on your new website (which is really important you spend enough) but that you are also ready to spend time. That is another issue that we run into with new websites. Clients think they can just hand you money and have a website. Building a website is a process, would you hand cash to a carpenter and say “build my kitchen, I’ll be back in a week.
Get a quality web design for your small business. What I mean, is make sure that you don’t just go out and get some kid who lives in his parents basement to make your website. By hiring a real firm, you will get great results. This is best shown in looking at companies you respect. Does it look like there sites were made out of garages?
Be ready to wait a bit, it takes a few months to get a site totally polished and ready to go online. In that time you can expect to be involved in the process, but it will still take some time.
Most of all, be excited about your new site. Its going to make a WORLD of difference.

Heavy bags and standing bags
Free standing bags are heavy bags that have large rounded bases and rest on the floor rather than suspended from the ceiling or hung from wall mounts. Free standing bags make a great choice for anyone who will be both punching and kicking the bag, this is because the foam on free standing bags begins close to the base and provides more useable striking surface for kicks. Another good feature of free standing bags is that, even when filled, that can be easily rolled away for storage or just rolled to the corner of the room.
Standing bags can be filled with either water or sand. In most cases water is preferred; this is because water provides some energy feedback and adds a more realistic feel when hitting the bag. Sand will make the bag weigh more, but will have generate a thick, unyielding feel. Standing bags are usually designed to weigh between 250 and 300 lbs. when filled. Hanging bags are heavy bags that are suspended from wall mounts or from the ceiling through the use of chains and hooks. Heavy bags are known to be extremely durable and provide you with an intensive, fluid workout that develops stamina, strength and overall cardiovascular fitness. Hanging bags also provide some sway, which is good for developing coordination and improving reaction time.
Choosing the correct weight
The more weight a bag has, the less sway it will produce. Too much will make the bag hard to hit, and too little sway will make the bag feel like a rock, and fail to absorb impacts which will cause damage to bones and tendons over time.
A 5′8″ male with a weight of about 170 lbs. should look for a bag weighing between 60 and 70lbs. More skilled or heavier hitters might want to look for something closer to 100lbs while those looking for a bag with more sway might want to consider something near the 40lb. mark.
Choosing the right hanging bag
The market is almost overflowing with heavy bag manufactures; however there are a few who stand out. Heavy bags from TKO are generally considered to be very high quality and are known for there durability. Their bags are sought after by gyms and boxing schools alike. Everlast, while at the high end of the price range, makes very high quality equipment and should be considered when looking for a heavy bag.
Leather bags are extremely long lasting and will have a more comfortable feel when struck. Vinyl bags can mimic the feel and look of leather while remaining more affordable. Water-core hanging bags are adjustable in weight; this adjustability is attained by under-filling the water core.
Hanging a heavy bag
Unlike free-standing bags, hanging bags need additional hardware before they can be used. There are a variety of wall mounts and hooks that you can buy to mount your heavy bag virtually anywhere you need to. Common places to hang the bag are garages, workout rooms and basements. If you are interested in keeping the bag outside, you may want to look into a weatherproof, or indoor/outdoor heavy bag.

America is losing patience with our Justice Department for many reasons. There was the past FBI Scandals, 911 debacle and spy information cases, but consider if you will all the other issues? The FBI computer system, which was suppose to work but didn’t costs taxpayers billions only to be abandoned and starting over.
Then there was the Martha Stewart trial when the FBI lied on the stand to convict her not of insider trading but lying, thus showing the complete hypocrisy of the system. Then we had the FTC a little tiny worthless little agency as part of the Justice Department go after SPAM, which as soon as they did increased by 3000%.
Now we are told that Identity Theft thru “phishing is an issue” but that has not stopped. The government announces an 18 month investigation and arrests 190 people around the world for Identity Theft and claims it is fiercely protecting us as Identity Theft has increased 10-fold during that same time.
The FBI in a sting arrests Border Patrol, DEA, National Guardsmen on our borders allowing shipments of people and drugs thru and lets them go with 18-month sentences? Now the Justice Department is wanting to tell us they are protecting us as we learn that Al Queda has nuclear devices already in our countries borders?
Is it just me or have you also lost complete and utter respect for the Justice Department? How can we get the credibility back to our government and set our Justice Department on track to protect the American People? Consider this in 2006.

Until 2000 the Canadian laws on fax advertising were not uniform across the country. It applied to some providers but not to all. Also prior to this it was not customer friendly; it was very confusing for the average consumer to understand what the rules were. When this new generalized rule came down there was also a ruling saying what the calling hours could be for proper calling times. The decision took into account each areas time zone.
Unsolicited fax advertisements are not enforced or punished by the government. They are enforced and punished through the media carrier. The national rules that have been set up are an agreement that was reached via the commissioner of the CRTC and the various telecom service providers in the country.
If a person is wishing to not have their fax number contacted for fax advertising they may place themselves on a voluntary do-not-call list. Their number will remain on the list for a period of three years. During the time that their number is on the list the companies do not call them out of choice. If they do choose to call a person that is on the list the violation of that can not be enforced by law though. That means if a person feels that they have been violated by the company then they are not able to sue. The do-not-call list is more like a gentlemen’s agreement than an actual strict law.
If a consumer is receiving these fax advertisements and they no longer wish to be, they can look on the fax advertisement for a way to contact the company to let them know that they no longer wish to be contacted.
Fax advertisements can be a wonderful tool for helping any business to get more costumers. However, customers prefer to be treated with respect. If they are not happy and feel that they are being bothered by a business in any type of way they will not be so kind as to spend their money there. Through fax advertising a solid business relationship can be either formed or destroyed depending upon how well the customer is treated through it. It is best for any business to abuse the media forms that they have at their fingertips. By following the general rules and guidelines set forth by the powers that be a company will portray the image of a responsible integrity based company that values their clients.

Although many homeowners go about purchasing a Homeowners insurance policy to protect their home and their belongings inside the home, most don’t give that insurance coverage another thought until something happens such as fire, hurricane damage, or theft.
While many homeowners like to believe that they live in safe neighborhoods that would never be affected by crime, it is tough to completely rule out whether or not the home will ever be affected by theft. For this reason it is essential to consider the theft prone items inside and outside of the home, so that you can ensure those items are properly insured, properly inventoried, and properly looked after as well.
Almost all good Homeowners insurance companies will recommend taking a careful inventory of household belongings and updating that list at least once a year to ensure that you are fully covered by the amount of insurance you have.
This also will help ensure that you will receive full replacement cost for those damaged or stolen possessions. In addition, some Homeowners insurance companies will even want to lump possessions into categories of theft prone and none theft prone. This is something many homeowners have never considered. What inside the home is theft prone?
One of the first categories that every insurance company will look for in the theft prone area of household goods is electronics. Unfortunately, many thieves know that electronics can easily be pawned or sold since they are a hot commodity in most parts of the world. Electronics can range from a television set, a DVD player, a personal computer or laptop, to an IPOD, or a CD player stereo system.
It is important to note to insurance agents any large or extremely expensive pieces of electronics equipment that may be in the home, and it is equally important to take adequate pictures and record dates of purchase, place of purchase and model numbers in case of theft. Manufacturers and model numbers can actually help in tracking down stolen goods as well.
Another major category for theft prone items is jewelry and furs. While some Homeowners insurance policies will cover the theft of jewelry or furs, many will require you to have a separate policy or a separate clause on the policy that will cost extra money, since furs and jewelry are special possessions.
Insurance policies will allow you to cover all jewelry in a lump sum, but often this means you will only be paid back a certain amount, like $2,500 for any one piece of jewelry. If you have any pieces of jewelry that cost over this amount, such as an engagement ring or diamond necklace, you may want to get a specific policy for that one item.
Note that this will require an appraiser’s description of the item and cost assessment. Don’t forget to always take pictures of the jewelry and furs, so that an insurance company can review the pictures for replacement value.
Many homeowners’ completely forget about collector’s items as a potential theft prone category, but many thieves will take notice of such a prized collection. Collector’s items could include artwork, baseball cards, antiques, or even figurines and are unfortunately extremely popular in the home invasion category.
With the advent of online programs like EBay, thieves can easily market these collector’s items to other collectors and make their money off of your prized possessions. It is important to inventory and take pictures of these household goods as well as report them to your insurance company.
Remember not to count out household items that thieves may consider taking from the exterior of your home. During the daytime or early evening hours, especially during the summertime, when families are out mowing the lawn and walking the dog many people leave the garage door open and this is an easy target for preying thieves.
Valuables in the garage can include tool sets, large power tools, sports equipment from scuba gear to summer or winter skis and even bicycles, workout equipment, a summertime grill, and electronics. When inventorying a home or speaking with an insurance agent, don’t forget to include those items that are in the garage but can still be covered by your Homeowners insurance policy.

Experimental approaches in sensory substitution are beginning to provide access to arbitrary live views from a camera.
The console-based Oralux Linux distribution ships with three screen-reading environments: Emacspeak, Yasr and Speakup. Screen readers can be assumed to be able to access all display content that is not intrinsically inaccessible.
Further functionality remains limited compared to equivalent desktop applications, the major benefit is to increase the accessibility of said websites. A persons choice of screen reader is dictated by many factors, including platform and the role of organizations like charities, schools, and employers.
Later versions of Microsoft Windows include an Accessibility Wizard and Magnifier for those with partial vision, and Microsoft Narrator, a simple screen reader. The rest have some vision, from light perception alone to relatively good acuity. Linux distributions for the blind include Oralux and Adriane Knoppix.
Screen reader choice is contentious: differing priorities and strong preferences are common. Screen readers are a form of assistive technology potentially useful to people who are blind, visually impaired, or learning disabled, often in combination with other AT such as screen magnifiers. There are also open source screen readers, such as the Linux Screen Reader for GNOME and NonVisual Desktop Access for Windows.
This month Anthony Loeff nonprofit volunteer is testing digital tools for people suffering from blindness Only a small fraction of this population, when compared to the sighted community, have Internet access.
Access technology such as screen readers and Screen magnifiers enable the blind to use mainstream computer applications. Recent versions of Microsoft Windows come with the rather basic Narrator. The Macintosh OS also comes with a built-in screen reader, called VoiceOver. The open source GNOME desktop environment long included Gnopernicus and now includes Orca. The latter developed in part by Knopper who has a visual impairment. The movement towards greater web accessibility is opening a far wider number of websites to adaptive technology, making the web a more inviting place for visually impaired surfers. Near 8 percent of those deemed legally blind, by any measure, have no vision. While Apple Mac OS X includes VoiceOver, a more feature-rich screen reader. Web browsers, word processors, icons and windows and email programs are just some of the applications used successfully by screen reader users. Most legally blind people 62 percent do not use computers. The primary audience for such applications is those who have difficulty reading because of learning disabilities or language barriers. Indeed, using a screen reader is, according to some users, considerably more difficult than using a GUI and many applications have specific problems resulting from the nature of the application. A screen reader is a software application that attempts to identify and interpret what is being displayed on the screen. This interpretation is then represented to the user with text-to-speech, sound icons, or a braille output. More and more, screen readers are being bundled with operating system distributions.
