Experimental approaches in sensory substitution are beginning to provide access to arbitrary live views from a camera.
The console-based Oralux Linux distribution ships with three screen-reading environments: Emacspeak, Yasr and Speakup. Screen readers can be assumed to be able to access all display content that is not intrinsically inaccessible.
Further functionality remains limited compared to equivalent desktop applications, the major benefit is to increase the accessibility of said websites. A persons choice of screen reader is dictated by many factors, including platform and the role of organizations like charities, schools, and employers.
Later versions of Microsoft Windows include an Accessibility Wizard and Magnifier for those with partial vision, and Microsoft Narrator, a simple screen reader. The rest have some vision, from light perception alone to relatively good acuity. Linux distributions for the blind include Oralux and Adriane Knoppix.
Screen reader choice is contentious: differing priorities and strong preferences are common. Screen readers are a form of assistive technology potentially useful to people who are blind, visually impaired, or learning disabled, often in combination with other AT such as screen magnifiers. There are also open source screen readers, such as the Linux Screen Reader for GNOME and NonVisual Desktop Access for Windows.
This month Anthony Loeff nonprofit volunteer is testing digital tools for people suffering from blindness Only a small fraction of this population, when compared to the sighted community, have Internet access.
Access technology such as screen readers and Screen magnifiers enable the blind to use mainstream computer applications. Recent versions of Microsoft Windows come with the rather basic Narrator. The Macintosh OS also comes with a built-in screen reader, called VoiceOver. The open source GNOME desktop environment long included Gnopernicus and now includes Orca. The latter developed in part by Knopper who has a visual impairment. The movement towards greater web accessibility is opening a far wider number of websites to adaptive technology, making the web a more inviting place for visually impaired surfers. Near 8 percent of those deemed legally blind, by any measure, have no vision. While Apple Mac OS X includes VoiceOver, a more feature-rich screen reader. Web browsers, word processors, icons and windows and email programs are just some of the applications used successfully by screen reader users. Most legally blind people 62 percent do not use computers. The primary audience for such applications is those who have difficulty reading because of learning disabilities or language barriers. Indeed, using a screen reader is, according to some users, considerably more difficult than using a GUI and many applications have specific problems resulting from the nature of the application. A screen reader is a software application that attempts to identify and interpret what is being displayed on the screen. This interpretation is then represented to the user with text-to-speech, sound icons, or a braille output. More and more, screen readers are being bundled with operating system distributions.

Regression Work involves bringing to conscious awareness those events from our past which, left unresolved, are impacting negatively on our present-day affairs. Unresolved issues can stem from situations in childhood, birth, prenatal states, “past lives” or “between lives”. The regression part refers to the person’s experience of “going back” to an important event in his/her past where she/he experiences the event as though it were occurring now. All the physical and emotional processes can be brought to sensate awareness and thoughts can be remembered. In this state a person gets a “second chance” to fully experience and process an event from his/her past which, for various reasons, she/he did not do originally.
It is usually fairly easy for a person to access a past event, it is often quite difficult to allow oneself to feel and express the various emotions which were originally felt and suppressed because to feel the feelings without adequate process was too painful. Unfortunately, processing events with loaded emotions is seldom done adequately. And yet, even now, unless this is done, healing will only become a partial achievement without a complete resolution of the issues involvedwith continued negative impact consciously and unconsciously.
The benefits of Regression Work are multifaceted, however many people report, life in general becomes more enjoyable. They report their level of self-esteem is enhanced and they become more aware of how they create their own reality. Thus, they become more self-empowered. As they come to know and accept who they truly are, their interaction with the world around them becomes realhere and now. Creativity and love becomes more prominent.
There are no limitations to the kind of benefits that come from regression work -physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Some examples are: resolution of relationship difficulties, as well as elimination of nightmares, phobias, obsessions, compulsive or addictive behaviors, chronic physical conditions, memory problems and psychosomatic disorders.
Regression Work can be facilitated using hypnosis or whatever technique helps you achieve an altered state of consciousness, a sort of mild trance state (an alpha state) in which your attention is focused deeply inward in conjunction with a heightened awareness of both inner and outer goings-on. You will be aware of the regressionist’s voice and other noises, and feel the temperature of the air in the room, while at the same time be deeply involved in visualizing and feeling the events of a past experience. It is similar to the state achieved when studying intensely for an exam or when watching an engrossing movie. There is a part of the person that knows what is transpiring in the here and now reality, so you are always in control of yourself. As a Regression facilitator, I wouldn’t want it any other way.
People frequently want to know how long regression work will take to resolve the known or unknown issues. It depends on many factors, specifically:
• the reason(s) why you want to do Regression Work.
• how willing you are to face your unresolved issues
• the complexity of those issues
• previous experience at doing personal work
• how quickly you can take responsibility for your work
• the competence of your therapist
However, if you want to do a regression because you are curious about the experience of the regression process, it only takes one session to satisfy that curiosityalbeit of little value. If you have done some personal work and have a few, specific issues you want to clear, it may take several sessions. But if you are depressed, don’t know who you are, don’t know what you want out of this life, have a lot of fear, anger or neurotic habits; or perhaps you have tried other ways of “coping” and it don’t work very well for youthen many more sessions will be needed. After things are in progress, you will be able to do a lot of it on your own.
Ultimately it becomes a life process where old blocks have been cleared; but the tools remain at your disposal to process completely any difficult experiences as they arise, so that there will be no need to work on them at some later time.
The most essential qualification a regressionist needs is to have undergone a substantial amount of personal regression workincluding deep, emotional release work. This ensures that she/he knows the ins and outs of the inner dynamics you’ll be experiencing. Most importantly, she/he will have dealt with enough of his/her own emotional baggage that she/he won’t be working it out on you. Without this criteria, she/he might unconsciously sabotage your exploration into an area involving his/her (the regressionist’s) own unresolved issues in order to avoid feeling it him/herself.
Equally important is accreditation such as degrees with a certification as a Regression Facilitator. While they indicate a minimum standard of acquired knowledge, one cannot rely solely upon them as proof of competence. Conversely, lack of such credentials is not necessarily an indication of incompetence. For example, I know a Regression Facilitator, who is a psychiatrist and certificates who lacks the inclination and skills to fully explore the issues at hand. This severely limits her ability to deliver effective work. Alternatively, I know facilitators who have fewer credentials and they do outstanding regression work.
Ask the regression facilitator what qualifies him/her to facilitate this worknumber of years in practice, continuing education, association memberships, etc. Then trust your feelings and choose with your heart. Or get a recommendation from someone whose opinion you value, who is or has been a client of the facilitator in question.
Last, but not least, the facilitator needs to be able to present you with an atmosphere of caring and trust, and you need to be able to establish rapport fairly quickly with this person. This is vital for building a therapeutic relationship, for there may be times in your work when trust issues become paramount, when loving support from your therapist may be crucial to your process.

I know a lot of people out there would like to loss a few pounds, or more importantly do not want to gain weight over the Holiday season. Most people want to loss weight to look better, the bigger issue is to fell better and have a healthier life style without the health conditions associated with excess weight. The majority of people want a quick easy weight loss system that sheds pounds with little or no effort. The truth is, there are new breakthrough’s that make that possible. The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to incorporate a regular exercise routine into your life. Walking after dinner every night could be a good routine to get into for people who haven’t been very active. Good weight loss supplements or fat burners combined with a regular exercise program can be very effective and rewarding in your life.
My research has lead to a very good solution. It may be possible to get some help to lose the pounds you need to, or prevent the gain from occurring in the first place, thus avoiding the health conditions associated with excess weight. All natural weight loss supplements are one of the best options in getting that help, the best weight loss product should slowly and naturally allow the body to lose fat, without added preservatives or chemicals that can cause damage to your body. Ideally, an herbal weight loss supplement should increase energy, without giving you the jitters, caused by many diet pills on the market. Always look for all natural ingredients such as apple cider vinegar, cayenne just to mention a few.
Apple Cider Vinegar is a solution of acid. It is produced by fermenting apples, and contains pectin, which is believed to be the reason behind this solution’s fat burning effects. There is even evidence of ancient Egyptians using apple cider for weight loss. Cayenne prized for thousands of years for its healing power. The combination of these and other natural ingredients have formed a very effective weight loss supplement, that is now available online. The fat burning properties combined with the energy increasing ingredients gives you the head start you need to keep the daily exercise program going, and the pound falling off. It is possible to get rid of the excess weight, and keep it off once and for all. Investigate this supplement for yourself.

Well the short answer to this question is that a weight loss program and be a literal life saver. They actually help you to lose weight and keep it off, unlike the typical “go-it-alone” dieter who can lose weight no problem for relatively short periods of time but cannot keep it off. The sad fact about this, far too common, type of dieting is that it confers no health advantage to remaining fat. In some ways it is worse for you especially in the mental health realm. I want to spend the next several paragraphs in this article giving you some helpful advice that will not only leave you looking and feeling better but living longer.
That weight loss programs are important because fat is a killer is becoming more apparent everyday in the medical research fields. There are so many organ systems affected by the different processes that both contribute to obesity and are a direct result of obesity that it will take ages to sort out all the complexities. Obesity is both an associated comorbidity of a lot of things and also a direct cause of many things that are serious and life threatening diseases. Lets talk about a few of the major ones like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
If you aren’t convinced to start a weight loss program read on! Heart disease, caused by coronary atherosclerosis, has several risk factors that are directly related to being obese. High cholesterol and high fat diets contribute to atherosclerotic pathophysiology and are very associated with obesity. Hypertension is another major risk factor for heart disease and is much more common in an obese person. And lastly diabetes, namely type II or adult onset diabetes, is another huge risk factor for heart disease and affects mostly obese people whose bodies have lost the sensitivity to insulin. This combination of events in an obese pt. make obesity a very high-risk, but gladly a modifiable risk factor for early death secondary to heart disease.
Diabetes is already mentioned as being in large part caused by obesity. I just want to list some of the other morbidities that an obese person can look forward to other than heart disease. Diabetics who don’t control their sugars have renal failure and eventually are dialysis dependent. They go blind due to retinal vascular complications, they have painful neuropathies, or they simply can’t feel their legs which eventually ulcerate and require amputation. A weight loss program sounds nice now doesn’t it?
Sparky Hrelek has been a personal trainer for many years and is big into fitness. His personal crusade is to raise awareness about the dangers of obesity and benefits of a weight loss program. Check out www.beginweightlossprogram.info

With the obesity epidemic that is going on today, a diet patch seems like it could be a miracle cure, but are diet patches too good to be true?
A diet patch is something like a bandage that you place somewhere on your body that is supposed to help you melt the pounds off by suppressing the appetite and increasing the metabolism. Often the ingredients are the same as those found in weight loss pills, but the ingredients in the patch enter the body through the skin.
Sticking on a diet patch sounds convenient and easy, but do diet patches really work?
There has been several major diet patch scams in the news lately. These scandals have made people question whether diet patches or even patches in general are effective at all.
There is no doubt that some kinds of patches work well. Many prescription medicines are now administered in patch form, as well as nicotine transdermal patches, which are given to people who are trying to quit smoking.
The skin on our body is actually an organ that enables some things to enter the body, and blocks others. There are capillary networks in the skin that allow certain substances to enter the bloodstream. These networks can help deliver medications found in the patches.
According to scientists, some drugs have the right properties to penetrate the skin and are potent enough to be effective at low doses. These drugs, such as the drug scopolamine, used to treat motion sickness, can be delivered transdermally (through the skin). Technical advances in the last 20-30 years are making patches a much more common form of medicine delivery, and many are saying that it will be the method choice for the future, because they have controlled-release.
Instead of dumping a high concentration of the drug into the blood stream at once, which then slowly drops to a very low level at which time the patient takes another dose, a controlled-release system, such as a patch, keeps the drug at a constant and safe level in the blood stream.
So, while patches can be an effective form of delivery for medicines and even herbs, the question still persists, do diet patches work?
The answer all depends on what ingredients are used and how they are prepared. Each company’s diet patch is different. As we can tell from all the diet patch scandals, many are totally ineffective because of the way they are manufactured or the herbs and ingredients used in them. Be very careful before you purchase any diet patch.
There are diet patches that are very effective, as many people who have lost weight with them can tell you. But a diet patch alone, without any change in a poor diet or unhealthy lifestyle, will probably have little effect. On the other hand, a good diet patch could possibly be just the incentive a person needs to make the changes to a healthier lifestyle that promotes weight loss– by adding energy, suppressing the appetite, and spurring the metabolism into action.
Try a good quality diet patch out and see if it works for you. It may just be the thing you needed to help you start losing weight and moving into a healthier lifestyle.

If you’re like most of us who have known chronic pain, you’ve tried one thing after another to ease your suffering. Here are three reasons why working with your subconscious and having a well-defined strategy may increase your chances of success.
When you’re in pain you’re willing to try almost anything to ease it. So you end up tracing a zig-zag course from doctor to doctor, drug to drug and therapy to therapy. Hopefully you gain some relief from all this but most likely you don’t gain nearly as much as you want or need.
Having a clearly defined strategy offers advantages that may change your results for the better, particularly if you engage your subconscious mind as your partner in pain relief.
The Role of Visualization Statements
When creating your strategy, it’s useful to consider including visualization statements as one of the components.
Visualization statements represent the specific language that your subconscious wants you to read back to it to help ease your pain. They’re simple and are targeted directly at the main factors that could bring you relief.
You can obtain these statements by learning how to communicate directly with your own subconscious mind. The process is straightforward and can be done at home by working with a facilitator over the telephone. You you need no special skills and no previous experience in working with the subconscious.
Here are three reasons why having a strategy makes sense:
1 A Strategy Allows You To Address The Complexity Of the Problem
The process by which a pain signal is transmitted from the periphery of your body to the brain is highly complex. The signal is generated, relayed, modified and amplified at many different places that can be called pain leverage points.
The first goal of pain relief is to interrupt the signal, or at the very least to reduce its frequency. You can try to do so at only one or two leverage points and it may work. But you have a higher chance of success if you use your subconscious to attack the signal pathway at many leverage points.
The only way to do this is by having a clear strategy. The problem is too complex to address by a hit or miss methodology.
2 A Strategy Allows You To Choose Your Battles
If the bad news is that the pain process is complicated, the good news is that not all of it may apply to you. Some of the pain leverage points may not matter in your case, while others may be crucially important to the transmission and amplification of the pain signal to your brain.
By having a strategy that calls for you to use your subconscious to carefully inventory every leverage point, you give yourself the ability to focus your efforts where they most matter.
For example, if you can identify three or four of the pain leverage points that most matter to your perception of pain, you can use visualization statements to attempt to reduce the signal at those points.
3 A Strategy Allows You To Take Ownership Of Your Situation
Too often chronic pain leads to a loss of control. This can add a layer of emotional distress on top of your pain, actually making it seem worse.
A strategy puts you in the driver’s seat. It gives you an intelligent plan for dealing with your situation, one that your conscious mind understands and your subconscious may be able to use as a tool for reducing the pain signal. This builds a sense of self-confidence that in itself can help to ease pain.
A Solid Value
For the three reasons given above, having a strategy can bring you real value in your search for pain relief. Whatever components you put into that plan–therapies, drugs, specialists, and so on–is up to you. But the important thing is to have some kind of a strategy.
As we’ve seen, visualization statements offer several benefits that may be able to make your strategy more effective:
• Scope. Visualization allows the subconscious to range freely over the pain leverage points. The subconscious may be able to address most or even all of them, while drugs, for example, may be currently available for only a few of them.
• Focus. Visualization can probably help the subconscious identify the leverage points that make the most difference in the transmission of pain signals to your cortex. This allows you to focus the subconscious on reducing the signal at the most critical junctures.
• Initiative. Visualization is a proactive process that you personally engage in to try to establish control over your pain. Unlike drugs and other therapies that are “done” to you, visualization allows you to take the initiative. This helps to reduce the sense of helplessness and build a feeling of self-confidence.
This may be true regardless of whether you have back pain or pain in other extremities, arthritis pain, fibromyalgia pain, or neuropathic pain (nerve pain).

CNN reported that a traditional holiday meal can pack more than 2,000 calories and 135 grams of fat (Friday 12-10-04 www.cnn.com). WOW! That’s a lot of calories and fat!
Most of those ‘extra’ holiday calories don’t come from super-high-fat foods, either, and that’s our topic for today. Most of those extra holiday calories come from the 2nd, 3rd and 4th helpings! See, it’s not so much that the holidays are full of hyper-caloric foods, but it’s that we tend to ignore portion sizes during the holidays.
Fitness experts know that no food is strictly forbidden. There should not be any (or many) foods that we avoid completely 100% of the time. Why? Because that sets us up for failure! If fudge is one of our favorites, and we force ourselves to NOT eat fudge at the holiday party, then for many of us what we’ve done is set ourselves up for a binge fudge-festival.
Avoiding our favorite foods entirely takes some fun out of the holidays and sets us up for binge-eating. That’s a recipe for disaster!
A much better approach is to ENJOY FOODS IN MODERATION. Watch those serving sizes! Enjoy and savor ONE piece of fudge! It’s better to enjoy one piece of fudge and then stop than attempt to deprive ourselves entirely, only to end up eating the whole pan.
It’s also important to keep in mind the cost of the foods we eat. We’re not talking about dollars and cents here, but the FITNESS cost of the food. When picking up that fudge, let’s keep in mind what it will cost us to enjoy that fudge. When picking up a plate at the buffet table, let’s take a moment to pause and think to ourselves: “The cost of this fudge will be an extra _____ minutes of exercise…..is that worth it to me?” Maybe. Maybe not. That’s for each of us to decide on our own.
The point is that we should be conscious of our food decisions. No foods are forbidden entirely, but we do need to watch our portion sizes and carefully consider the cost of each food. That’s the real recipe for holiday “treat” success!
(NOTE: Occasionally your doctor may put certain foods on a “banned” list for you, and that’s a different subject entirely. A personal no-no list of foods is usually due to a medical condition such as a heart condition, blood pressure issues, an allergy, etc. and every recommendation made by your doctor should be followed exactly. The article above refers to the nutritional value of foods ONLY and should not be taken as medical advice.)

Ever heard of the expression, “Getting up on the wrong side of the bed?” Many people have less than idealistic starts to their day. The alarm goes off, the snooze button gets thwacked several times and something gets grumbled about it being too early. Others jump out of bed, and hit the shower running with little thought to creating a spirit of excitement for the new day.
What is your morning ritual when you first wake up? Are you consciously setting aside a few minutes to create the day with vision, thoughtfulness, and excitement?
The first few minutes of the morning can be transformed into a magical time that welcomes change and opportunity. You don’t have to figure out how you are going to get through the next week or month. Or even how you are going to lose all that weight. Focus on what you can do to make yourself feel successful today. It’s within your control to create a positive experience for yourself. During this time, you can set your mood, put yourself in the right frame of mind, and maximize your outcomes for the upcoming day. You could also ask for guidance and be open to receiving support from the universe. What intentions could you set at the start of your day that would help you achieve your dreams?
MORNING EXERCISES
1. DAILY COMMITMENT
One of the first things you can do to get your morning started right is to make a make a DAILY COMMITMENT to yourself. This involves making a personal decision to devote some action to your goal. We’re talking personal will here (what you want and what you stand for) as opposed to will power (what you don’t want and what you stand against). Being aware of who you are and what you stand for strengthens you as an individual.
Define a specific action. Vague and general statements are not going to work. Instead of waking up and thinking, “I’m going to do better today,” “Today I won’t blow it,” “I will not binge today,” try something different. Choose an action that you ALREADY KNOW you can accomplish. Don’t select the hardest, biggest or most impossible thing you can think of. Pick something small and achievable. Be kind and realistic with yourself. Get excited! Use your imagination and bring a sense of fun into what you are going to achieve today. Be silly, or adventurous, or playful. Your goal is to set and achieve one action today. Make it fun. At the end of the day, write down your accomplishment. You deserve praise, recognition, and a big sense of accomplishment. Choosing an achievable goal builds excitement and strength, and acknowledging your effort builds self-worth.
2. VISUALIZE THE GOAL
Take two or three minutes and visualize yourself accomplishing your chosen specific action. For example, what does eating an extra serving of vegetables look like? What color are they? What sounds and tastes are associated with eating these vegetables? What does it feel like to accomplish the goal? Allow all of this to be present within you. Breath, relax, notice what it feels like in your body to be excited and filled with the expectation that you can have what you want.
Whatever you include in your attention, you will include in your experience. What are you doing? What actions are you taking? What are you saying? Where do your thoughts lead you? Cultivate a desire to allowing yourself to feel better. Create an openness to allow greater happiness for yourself.
Spend a few minutes each morning improving the visual picture you want for yourself. See yourself as fit as you want to be, as a strong leader in your own life, standing strong in your choices, and a happy self-motivator. Instead of staying frustrated over where you are, get excited about what you can make possible by deciding willingly to adopt a lifestyle based upon excited vision and action.
3. SMILE
Visit your local Hallmark store. In it they are bound to have a big bright yellow smiley card. You know, the Happy Face. Buy the card and in it write your favorite motivational phrase or quote. Something that touches your heart and brings out the best in you. Mail it to yourself. Once it arrives, place the opened card next to your bed. After making your DAILY COMMITMENT and then visualizing yourself achieving success, pick up your card and read your inspirational message. Bring a big smile to your face.
Now you’re ready to begin your wonderful day!
POSITIVE NOTES
I am beautiful on the outside,
I am passionate within,
I am special unto myself,

A Must Read if You Have Children!
Would you allow your family to brush their teeth with engine degreaser or rat poison? The fact is, they probably are and you don’t even know it.
Dental hygiene products that you and your children use every day may contain toxins that have been linked to cancer, blindness, and even death. Have you checked out the ingredients in your toothpaste or mouthwash lately?
Many name-brand toothpastes and mouthwashes contain potentially harmful ingredients, which are made up of very small molecules that may penetrate through the tissue of your mouth, enter the blood stream, and build up in the liver, kidneys, heart, lungs, and tissues.
Did you ever wonder why manufacturers are required to put the following warning label on toothpastes?
Just read the label on any major brand toothpaste or mouthwash. You’ll see they are loaded with dangerous toxins and chemicals such as sodium fluoride, triclosan, FD&C Blue Dye #1 and 2, sodium lauryl sulfate, and hydrated silica. All of these common ingredients have been found to be harmful to humans. (From the Safe Shoppers Bible)
In children and youth, minimal ingestion of sodium fluoride causes salivation, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, and diarrhea. Large doses of the carcinogen may cause paralysis, muscular weakness and clonic convulsions, followed by respiratory and cardiac failure. (From “Commercial Toothpaste - Natural or Poison?”)
It’s no wonder that fluoride can cause death in humans! In addition to being one of the main ingredients in toothpaste as well as rat and cockroach poisons, sodium fluoride is also a key component in anesthetic, hypnotic, and psychiatric drugs and SARIN NERVE GAS! (From “Neurotoxicity of Sodium Fluoride in Rats” & “Dental Conditions in Workers Chronically Exposed to Dilute and Anhydrous Hydrofluoric Acid”)
Health risks from chemicals and toxins in oral hygiene products are the most avoidable of all the health risks we face. You don’t have to be a biochemist to get these risks out of your life. It’s as simple as changing brands. To read all the hidden dangers in toothpaste go to: http://hiddendangers.here.ws.
