Volunteer Work & Your Company

Posted in Markets, Partisans

We all know that giving your time as a volunteer lets you strengthen the bonds of your community and in the same stride assist the needy. Traditionally, however, making arrangements to be free to volunteer often actually consumes time that could be put to much better use. And don’t you think that if you had your friends from work volunteering alongside you you’d all have a better time? That is why companies like Adaptive Marketing LLC, whose financial and shopping benefits programs, such as DealMax, help to enrich consumers, have stepped up to become the points of organization enabling their employees to make time for reaching out.

Company based initiatives like these were always annual events — but this has come to be seen as the minimum of effort. Shoe recycling initiatives and more active work like tree planting events — these are among the activities that have been made possible for its staff by Adaptive Marketing. With all information — location, time, date, specifics of event, etc. — publically announced it has become very simple for staff members to set aside the time for volunteering and how they’d be using it.

Making sure volunteers have their say in what programs are available is essential. At Adaptive Marketing, the company behind DealMax, staffers are presented with the chance to choose from a diverse list of volunteer activities in the local area. Earlier projects have ranged between areas as diverse as help and support for children and young adults, green awareness activities, and events helping local theatre. The result is that Adaptive Marketing volunteers have the chance to find the most effective way to work and relish their time volunteering.

A regular addition to their schedule or a single big event — these are the usual ways for a business to arrange this kind of volunteer initiative, often at a local school or the homeless shelter in town. Regardless of how short the time you can spare, we’d expect you can still find some activity you can take part in, and consequently time is no block against charitable work.

It’s hardly an unusual practice for businesses to help out the community which they serve. Goodwill comes from the projects undertaken by Adaptive Marketing’s staffers, and the staffers of companies like it, through these company-sponsored projects. Helping around your home town leaves you feeling a lot better about yourself — which is just the sort of feeling to leave employees motivated both in their volunteer work and back behind their desks, too.

How to Pass Drug Tests

How Anyone Can Pass a Drug Test

Tips on how to pass a drug test.

Exercise

Toxins are stashed away in body fat for several days. It only makes sense to take in an exercise curriculum, but not just any work routine. Focus in on cardiovascular workout, approximately 30-40 minutes first thing in the morning before breakfast. This little trick will burn 300% more body fat than cardio workout at any other time because your body is utilizing its own fat stores to fuel the workout. Pass a drug test by breaking a sweat! Healthy exercise is a alternative to a bad thing–similar to discovering abotox alternative–and should be incorporated into a healthy lifestyle.

Water Detoxify

Most detoxify pills, drinks, and teas contain herbal diuretics. Diuretics flush the body of excess (and sometimes too much) H2O, causing an electrolyte dissymmetry. This flushing process helps expedite as many drug metabolites from the body. H2O is in and of itself a diuretic, too! Consume about 2 gallons of distilled water per day, and you’ll experience a profound diuresis. The problem one must be aware of is too much H2O loss can be detected by a urine drug test (the sample will come back as adulterated). The test measures pH and creatinine levels, both of which are directly tied to H2O consumption. Too much H2O and your creatinine drops below normal. This is why most detox drinks sold for passing a drug test incorporate creatine; the by-product being crseatinine upon metabolization.

Excessive dehydration (e.g. water loss) can be dangerous, but not as dangerous as taking Hydroxycut, to put it into real world terms.

Cranberry Extract

Cranberry juice is an excellent detoxification herb as it aids in urine / kidney function. Drinking cranberry juice prior to a drug test for a couple days will aid in you passing a drug test.

Colony Collapse Disorder

Honey bees account for the pollination of about 1/3 of the crops in the United States. The state of California alone uses approximately 1.3 million bee colonies for their almond crop. Honey bees contribute about $15 billion in added crop value for specialty crops like berries, nuts, fruits and vegetables. However, towards the end of 2006, beekeepers began losing about 30 to 90% of their hives. Honey bees would fly away and never go back to their colonies leaving behind their queen and some immature or young bees. Researchers came up with the term Colony Collapse Disorder, or CCD, to identify these puzzling developments.

Although there have been no definite conclusions about the causes of CCD, there are several identified key factors that lead to it. Aside from viruses, parasites, fungus, and stress; researchers are also looking at environmental factors like pesticides and exposure to contaminated water supplies. Pesticides can form toxic levels of poison that may be harmful to these bees. Climate change has also been cited as a possible factor.

CCD is an issue that raises cautions because continuous loss of bees can mean a shortage of food sources. Honey bees are excellent and prolific pollinators. Natural and human pollination can be done on various crops, but the result would not be as good as that of those pollinated by the bees.

For now, the best thing to do would be to find ways to lessen the effects of CCD factors. Pesticides used should be minimized especially at midday when bees are busy foraging for nectar. Efforts directed towards the problem of global warming can also be a big help. Planting excellent nectar sources will also help alleviate CCD.

Until researches find the underlying cause/s of this phenomenon, we can only do so much.

At CEMEX, air quality is a priority with the cement company’s fusion of environment friendly programs and pro-safety policies

Smart Brief published an article about the Third Annual CEMEX U.S. Building Awards, which also highlights CEMEX air quality initatives.

How Do You Habitually Treat Yourself?

Posted in Partisans

In order to learn how to relieve ourselves of self-defeating
patterns, the obvious first step is to become aware of what
these patterns are.

The easiest way to do this is simply to become a casual
observer of your own behavior and to take stock of how you
treat yourself. Note both the negative and the positive
aspects.

Don’t make a big chore of this. Simply intend to “hear”
what you tell yourself as you go about your business.
Notice how you “look” at yourself. Do you ever smile at
yourself in the mirror? Do you ever greet yourself as
someone you’re glad to see?

After you’ve monitored yourself for a day or two, ask
yourself which one of these categories you fall into.

1) You always look at yourself with a hypercritical eye and
you often mentally refer to yourself as stupid, lazy,
clumsy, ugly, gross, or other demeaning terms.

You constantly require outside validation in order to feel
even halfway decent about yourself.

2) You maintain a “neutral” approach to your own person,
hardly even noticing anything in particular about yourself.
You just take yourself, your appearance, and your
performance for granted.

It’s almost as if you were a non-entity whose job it is to
just keep showing up, but you certainly don’t take any real
pleasure in your own company. You base your worth primarily
on how others react to you.

3) You make a point of it to treat yourself with the utmost
respect. You speak to yourself in only the most courteous
and encouraging tones. You actively note and register
appreciation for your most likeable qualities and you enjoy
your own company. You maintain this outlook despite what
others’ opinions of you may be. After all, it is your
opinion and validation that matter to you most.

Clearly, this last option is what we are striving for.
Contrary to what some may think, this is not vanity or
egotism. It is self-affirmation. It is creating a friendly
“alliance” with someone who will be with you the rest of
your days.

Other people come and go, and among the ones who stay, they
are primarily focused on their own lives.

It is no one’s responsibility but your own to validate your
existence. You are the only one who can provide yourself
with the constant, abiding, unconditional acceptance that we
all crave.

~ Tips for Improvement ~

Tip #1 - Every time you look in the mirror, look yourself in
the eye. Stay there, don’t look away. (Some people have
trouble doing even this much.) Now, smile at yourself with
just your eyes, nothing phony.

Acknowledge the face in the glass as a dear friend, whose
opinion you admire, whose support you feel privileged to
have. THIS is the person you most want on your side. Not
the big “they” out there, as in “What will ‘they’ think?”
It is now: “What do YOU think, my dear friend in the looking
glass?”

Tip #2 - Immediately drop any negative, hateful or
belittling remarks to yourself. This includes any unspoken
comments.

For example, do you ever look at yourself in the mirror and
groan? I’m sorry, but I must tell you that this is just
plain rude! How do you think you would react if someone
else did that to you? Wouldn’t you be insulted and hurt and
just a little appalled at that person’s bad manners?

And would it ever occur to you to treat one of your friends
that way? You wouldn’t do it! You would realize how unkind
and tactless such a reaction would be. You would probably
look at your friend with compassionate concern. You might
wonder if he is sick or if he’s been getting enough rest,
but you certainly wouldn’t look at him and say, “Ugh!”

So why is it that people let themselves get away with
treating themselves so shabbily? Perhaps no one has ever
pointed this out to you before. Or maybe you have never
given yourself permission to treat yourself gently before.

Now that you’ve been made aware of this, I trust you will
find it easy and highly desirable to make these simple
changes. And these two changes alone will result in some
profound internal shifts.

So the new order of the day is this: If it’s not something
that you would say or do to a cherished friend, then you do
not say or do it to yourself, period.

I hope that you will give these techniques a serious workout .
Your emotional well-being is well worth the effort. It is the
foundation upon which all else will be built.

Heading For a European Constitution (2)

Posted in Partisans

Recently I read a discussion about Europe in which a central banking system like that of the US was taken as example. The idea was to support the Euro not only with a monetary policy but also with a fiscal policy, which is not done at the moment in Europe.

So I thought, this federalist viewpoint is taken as model for the future Constitution (still in the same discussion).
In fact for any new situation you tend to find something that already exists and federalist government do exists, which makes them useful benchmarks for the European Union, which is in process of continuous evolution. The question is where should it stop (or end)?

Rules or principles make things simpler…But how do you develop such a rule? Discussion about the future of the European Union are accompanied with comparison to other systems and other rules. The subsidiarity principle for example is key in these kinds of discussions.

  • Subsidiarity is the principle which states that matters ought to be handled by the smallest (or, the lowest) competent authority. The Oxford English Dictionary defines subsidiarity as the idea that a central authority should have a subsidiary function, performing only those tasks which cannot be performed effectively at a more immediate or local level…

Subsidiarity is, ideally or in principle, one of the features of federalism. (www.wikipedia.org)

Alright, but then there are two federalist “flavors” (according to the same source): In Canada and Europe (read: European countries), “federalist” is often used to describe those who favor a stronger federal government (or European Union government) and weaker provincial governments… The same is historically true in the United States, with those who generally favor a confederation, or weaker federal government and stronger state governments, being called “anti-federalists”.

From politics to economics - “it’s the economy stupid” - and observing another principle (the solidarity principle) the choice for a federation wouldn’t fit. The recent veto’s from the Netherlands and France where all about the problems with budget solidarity; “we are paying more than we receive.”

So, steps into the direction of a further integration would first require clear benefits before any discussion about possible (Con) federation. And these benefits are not clear…
